Sports Teams in our Model village

When we first set out to create the model village, there was an apathy during an 84 week lock down. Children were not in school and so to bring the whole village and parish into action we bought 8 soccer balls and proper goal posts eventually (after at first using bamboo ones) and we put 160 kids onto soccer teams.

Well in African countries they call it football and not soccer but since this is my website and I am Canadian I am calling it soccer.

So I got the priviledge of naming the teams. The all star boys team is “Lion Kings of Wanga” and the girls all star team is “Lioness Queens of Wanga”. Those two teams have soccer uniforms and the boys team has soccer boots. We need to get soccer boots for the girls because although they play soccer barefoot in local villages, to compete in the league you must have boots. So whoever would like to get the girls boots, that would be so wonderful, the girls team are extremely competent players and this opens the door even for sports careers for these kids.

I want to name the small kids teams “Lion cubs of Wanga” and “Lioness cubs of Wanga” and the soccer club will be “Lion Pride Football Club of Wanga”. (Ok I said Football).

So we just need help with uniforms and more soccer balls. I will add more information to this post re how the boys team is doing in their competitions. Last year they won everything!!!

Besides soccer (football) we have netball, volleyball and athletics. Our kids are super active in sports.
